AndBank History

Failed Merger Process

On July 25, 2007, the largest banking fusion in Andorra began with the merger of Andbank with Banc Internacional Banca Mora (BIBM, MoraBanc) under the name “Andbanc Mora”, becoming the country’s leading institution ahead of Crèdit Andorrà. The heads of the two entities agreed on a share swap that made BIBM the parent entity of the holding company.

Four months later banks announced that integration will not materialize. The decision not to merge was concluded by mutual agreement. The main stumbling block was the difference in the respective corporate cultures: the difficulty of standardizing systems and work processes.

Private Banking Development in Spain

Andbank is present in Spain since 2011 with operations managed by Andbank Luxembourg, targeting private banking clients with a wealth threshold of more than €1 million. In 2013, the entity started operating in Spain with its own bank license. With the banking license granted by the Bank of Spain, Andbank opened four offices: in Madrid, Barcelona, and two in Galicia.

On November 28, 2014, Andbank completed the incorporation of the personal and private banking business of Inversis Banco. The transaction was part of Andbank’s international growth strategy and meant that the bank became a specialized private banking player with €7.5 billion in assets under management, 50,000 clients, 234 employees, 18 branches, and 150 financial agents.
