Andorra Digital Nomad Residency
Working abroad with a digital nomad residency is a possibility. With soon to be launched Andorra digital nomad visa for remote workers, whether you want to live and work on a Southeast Asian island or a European city, you will be able to make it completely legally. In 2021 Andorran Minister Economy, Jordi Gallardo announced the preparation of future law on the digital economy, which will serve in Andorra to attract and retain talent from emerging online sectors.
What is a Digital Nomad Visa?
Digital nomads generally choose to enter the online work model to retain freedom. Until recently, remote professionals belonged to a separate group, where the rights and possibilities to acquire a traditional work visa were almost non-existent.
Many digital nomads as a lifestyle are looking for a longer stay than the typical 30 and 90 days coming with a touristic visa. The digital nomad visa presents essential benefits with the possibility to work legally in the chosen country, through the internet, without being subject to tax laws that could make the stay more expensive. The second advantage is the one-year validity of a digital visa on average, allowing the traveler to work and enjoy all that the chosen place has to offer.
Driven by the interest in repairing the economy and post-pandemic tourism, Andorra is betting on this new class of modern nomads who live and work remotely while moving around the world, creating digital nomad visa programs, remote work visas for freelancers.
Andorra Digital Nomad Tax Residency Law
According to the Andorra government officials, the new digital nomad law will bring investment opportunities, innovation, sustainability, and e-economy as the pillars of Andorra’s future. The bill will create a legal framework for new professions, such as YouTubers, influencers, and other social media professionals. Already today, many digital nomads in the industry place their tax residency in Andorra to avoid paying taxes in Spain.
The latest framework should regulate matters such as e-residency, with the development of virtual financial firms, artificial intelligence, etc. Countries like Estonia have developed the concept of digital citizenship as a way to attract the installation of online companies in the country. The regulatory text is one of the legs of the strategy that the Andorran government is working on to promote innovation to diversify the economy. The strategy also includes the creation of a technology park and other actions to regulate and provide guarantees to attract digital investment.
With the same objective of attracting foreign investment, the Minister of Presidency, Economy, and Enterprise of Andorra has detailed that already presented drafts give legal certainty to investors, such as the one that regulates virtual assets, blockchain technology, or e-sports.
Andorra is now in a moment of digital transformation, offering political stability and legal security, as well as a competitive and internationally approved tax system. With the pandemic, Andorra has gained interest in foreign investment.
